United States presidents issue executive orders (in addition to other executive actions) to help officers and agencies of the executive branch manage the operations within the federal government itself.
Donald Trump signed a total of 220 executive orders during his first term, from January 2017 to January 2021. As of January 2025,[update] 72 of them (33%) have been revoked.

Plans
[edit]On the first day in office, President Trump was reported to be planning to issue "close to a hundred"[27] executive orders including the following:
- Declaring a national emergency at the border with Mexico.[28]
- Designating human trafficking cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations.[29]
- Reinstating the Remain in Mexico policy.[28]
- Ending birthright citizenship for American-born children of illegal migrants and children of parents on work, study and other temporary visas.[27]
- Declaring that only two sexes (male and female) are recognized by the U.S. government.[30]
- Removal of diversity, equity and inclusion polices in federal government.[28]
- Leaving the Paris Climate Accord.[31][28]
- Declaring a "national energy emergency" allowing him to speed up the acquisition of oil permits.[27]
- Ending federal regulations encouraging the sale of electric vehicles.[27]
- Implementing "Schedule F" to reduce job protections for potentially thousands of federal employees.[29]
- Moving the United States Space Command headquarters from Colorado back to Alabama.[29]
- Leaving the World Health Organization.[32]
- Renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and Mount Denali to Mount McKinley.
- Re-adding Cuba to the State Sponsors of Terrorism list.[33]
- Removing sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank.[34]
- Establishing the Department of Government Efficiency.[21]
